  • NOON Nathan’s HotDog Eating Contest – Coney Island – at the Corner of Surf Avenue and Stillwell Avenue – Get there early to see! No tickets are needed. LINK HERE

  • 11-5p.m. HISTORIC RICHMONDTOWN, Independence Day Celebration Staten Island Enjoy a pie-baking demonstration, bring a pie you baked to enter the Pie-baking contest, an exciting competition that pits ordinary citizens of today against expert “colonial” cooks!  Contest will be judged by volunteers. 
    Help to churn old-time ice-cream, participate in the Pinwheel Parade, meet patriotic villagers from the 1800s and earlier. Cost: Adults: $5.00 Seniors: $4.00 Children5-17: $3.50 LINK HERE

  • 2-4p.m. 4th of July KIDS CRUISE & BBQ! Adults: $25 Members: $20 Children: $15 Tickets: purchase at www.fohrp.org Celebrate your holiday aboard a historic riverboat with face painting and arts and crafts. BBQ lunch is included in the ticket price.
    Location: Pier 40 Houston & 5th Avenue All cruises launch from Hudson River Park’s Pier 40 at West Houston Street in Manhattan. By subway take the number 1 train to the Houston Street stop. Exit and walk west on Houston Street for five blocks and cross over the West Side Highway. Walk to the northern most end of the Pier 40 building and you will see the boat docked on your left hand side. Garage parking is available as well, should you choose to drive.

  • 6a.m. to 11p.m. Summer for Hope Presents: “Play Me I’m Yours” Brings live art to the center of commercial Manhattan, Brooklyn, Queens, the Bronx, and Staten Island with the installation of 60 upright pianos placed at strategic  locations throughout the five boroughs. This event repeats every day between 6/21/2010 and 7/5/2010.                  LINK HERE          

  • 1:00-4:00 p.m. FREEDOM STRUT Location: Lefferts Historic House in Prospect Park, Brooklyn. On July 4, 1827 slavery finally ended in New York, and it was celebrated the following day. For many years after, July 5th was a day for parades and fancy dinners to commemorate New York emancipation. Decorate your clothes and parade through the Lefferts Farmyard. Come listen to stories and live music to help celebrate freedom. LINK HERE
