P.S. 373R CARNIVAL!!

51007001.jpgOn May 11, 2007 we had an all-school carnival. Kids were bussed in from all of our sites to participate in the fun. Mr. Frank had an enormous grill that he fired up early in the morning. He grilled a delicious assortment of hamburgers, hot dogs and chicken. Ms. Christy Rosen made sure there was a wonderful selection of music, and made sure that all the rides would arrive on time. All the sites brought amazing art posters that were hung on the outside of the school. Nurse Fran supervised the popcorn machine. The P.T.A. worked on making art and crafts visors with the children. The Speech dept. and the counselors manned the face painting and the temporary tattoo stations. Ms. Tidd handed out prizes at the fishing pool for everyone who caught a plastic fish. Mr. Edwards did the basketball free throw game with the kids. Miss Nichole Dubois handled the bean bag toss . And we had a bowling game and ring toss.

The Carnival rides came early for the younger children. We had a gigantic blow-up Titanic ride that the kids slide down. We also had an inflatable bouncy ride and a carousel. The older kids were treated to laser tag and a spiderman bouncy ride. In addition there was a mechanized crescent swing that rocked back and forth. Mr. Romero’s brother came to visit too. He is a policeman that rides a horse and the kids got to pet the horse and ask questions. The fire department showed up with one of their ladder trucks too. All in all we had a TERRIFIC TIME! Following are some comments from the student blog about the carnival:

Autreat 2007

Autism Network International presents
AUTREAT 2007

Autreat is a retreat-style conference run by autistic people, for
autistic people and our friends and families. It is an opportunity for
autistic people and those with related developmental differences, our
friends and supporters to come together, discover and explore autistic
connections, and develop advocacy skills, all in an autistic-friendly
environment. Autreat focuses on positive living with autism, NOT on
causes, cures, or ways to make us more normal. We have an exciting
lineup of presentations on a variety of subjects of interest to the
Autistic community, including emotions, parenting, testing,
self-advocacy skills, neurodiversity, autistic people in Japan, and
more. Autreat has been approved to offer Continuing Education Units
through the Center on Human Policy at Syracuse University.

Autreat 2007 will take place on Monday-Friday, June 25-29, 2007 at a
small college campus in the Philadelphia, Pennsylvania, area. The
campus has plenty of open space for walking, recreation, and enjoying
the outdoors. Lodging is in a residence hall with two to four people
per room. Registration includes a supervised activity program for
children and teens under 18. For fee information, registration form, a
list of workshops, and further autreat information, check out ANI’s
