INFORMATION REGARDING ATLANTIC EXPRESS COMPANY BANKRUPTCY
Effective December 31, the Atlantic Bus Company and affiliated companies (Amboy, Staten Island Bus and Atlantic Queens Bus) are no longer providing school bus service for the NYC Department of Education. All bus routes operated by Atlantic Bus Company in the past will now be operated by other bus companies. Normal bus service for General Education and Special Education students will start after Winter Recess on January 2, 2014.
Visit the School and Student Transportation Search page on the OPT website to find contact information on the bus company that will now provide service for your child’s route, and to confirm the route number that your child is assigned. As these bus companies begin providing service, please be aware of the following:
- The name painted on the bus may be different, or the bus may still be identified as an Atlantic Express Company bus; please check the route number in the window to confirm that your child is being placed on the correct bus;
- You may know the driver and/or attendant on the bus, or the driver and/or attendant may be new;
- The bus should arrive at the regular stop at the regular time. However, if a bus is late please contact OPT at 718-392-8855 as soon as possible to report the lateness and to find out about the status of the route.
