The SIDDC, which is comprised of individuals with developmental disabilities, parents, family members, agency and governmental representatives, is a partnership of people who share a mission to develop services and resources, to provide information, promote advocacy and focus on issues that benefit Staten Islanders with developmental disabilities and their families with the ultimate goal of improving the quality of their lives.
Many positive changes have come about over the years as a result of the input from the SIDDC in its advisory role to our governing bodies: Staten Island Developmental Disabilities Office (SIDDSO), The New York State Office of Mental Retardation and Developmental Disabilities (OMRDD), The New York City Department of Health and Mental Hygiene (NYC DOHMH). Council members are involved in city and statewide activities with other representatives and legislators that directly affect the future plans of people with developmental disabilities.
