List of Active Blogs for PS 373R for 2009

The Virtual PTA

This is our parent/community blog. It was established in 2006 and was the first of its kind in District 75. This blog was originally a project funded from a UFT grant. There are links to advocacy groups, an archive of past articles, and posts to encourage families to explore all the resources that are available to them. We get over 10,000 hits each month. Many schools have modeled PTA blogs after this one.

Stuff from the Lab

P.S. 373R’s oldest blog – we have over 200,000 hits. The site contains work, podcasts, film festivals, lessons, student writing from 2007 and on. This site is produced and maintained in the Technology lab on the third floor of our main site.

The Student’s Studio

Our main site art blog. With examples of student art work and performances. This is growing into a wonderful showcase for student work and an art resource for all teachers.

P373R’s Petrides’ Site Blog

This blog began in Fall 2008 and has been a great success. Here, we showcase what is going on with our K-2 students at the Petrides site. There are wonderful examples of student’s writing and class projects.

 Mr. Mac’s Blog

Our 6th Grade teacher Mr. McNamara runs a literacy blog with his class that publishes student’s writing. Here you will find book reports on Sounder, Night John, A Christmas Carol, Hatchet, and Holes. This is a classroom blog and its strength is in the student’s commentary.

The Wolves’ Den – P373R’s PBIS Behavior Blog

This blog is a product of our use of data with our behavior committee. Our behavior committee meets regularly to discuss how we can improve behavior in our school. This blog, which bears our mascot’s name, takes notice of students who are exhibiting appropriate behaviors. It keeps our teachers and students focused on our behavioral goals.

Welcome to the North Shore

Our Summer Blog started in Summer 2008. With a literacy grant we sought and won from the Staten Island Foundation, P373R did a community project that brought students into their local community. Students then created blog posts and podcasts about what they learned. This blog connects student’s with their community, while giving them the opportunity to produce authentic writing samples and improve literacy skills.

 Our 2008 Presidential Election Blog

This blog contains student writing about the 2008 Presidential Election and our online Fall film festival on the presidency. It was made in cooperation with P25 and P44.

Our MOMA Art Partnership Blog

Another blog from our site at Petrides. This art blog tells the story of our partnership with the Museum of Modern Art. Features include examples of student’s work and comments on the art projects.

 Miss Roche’s Blogs  and

Two blogs by our 4th grade teacher Miss Roche. It showcases what the students are studying and has updates on class trips and events. Students write posts and participate in maintaining the blogs.
