I was at today’s PTA meeting Thursday,November 16. I loved all the
information we got from the therapist. I was just a little upset none
of the therapists present were working with my son, Antonio Martinez.
My son goes to Petrides, Sunnyside.
I think we should have a PTA meeting with some of the therapists from the Petrides.
I would like to know some of the methods the therapists are using to
work with our children.
I would also like to thank the school for the
parent lending library and and especially Ms. Delica Mrs. Delicia
McEvily because I know she has had input on my sons learning.

First we would like to recognize and applaud your involvement in our
school. By attending our P.T.A meetings and using your voice on
this forum you are helping us to create a better learning environment
for all our students. We are pleased that you found the information
provided informative. We have a P.T.A meeting scheduled for the
Petrides site in December and as we discussed yesterday your child’s
therapist Ms. N. Perez will be in attendance. We will have Ms. Perez
contact you before that so you can get a clear idea of how your child
is progressing.
Again thank you sincerely for your participation

Hi,
My son, Joseph Cruz, attends school at the main site (Henderson). I was reading over his notes and noticed that the PTA was putting together a cookbook. I was wondering where they were going to have it printed. I’m the Production Manager at FedEx Kinko’s on Staten Island and was hoping I could offer some print services for the cookbook. If interested please contact me directly at the store at (718) 982-5223, my name is Julee. You can also contact me by e-mail at jcruz515@aol.com or amt1149@fedexkinkos.com.

Hello from your PS 373R Parent Coordinator!
In response to Susie Martinez’ query, we will be having our next PTA meeting on January 18, 2007 at 9:00 a.m. at the Petrides “J” building. Our guest speaker is Irene Cavanagh from EDEN II. She will discuss after school programs and Respite. Petrides students should be getting their PTA flyers in today’s message books. Please bring any interesting books/reviews or annnouncements to the meeting to share with the other parents.
In response to Julee Cruz, I would like to say THANK YOU for the offer to help with our next cookbook fundraiser. I am really excited that we may do a partnership with Kinko’s. We will always be happy to accept any donations of time or materials. The fundraiser will be able to net more money if production costs are kept to a minimum. If anyone else would like to volunteer to help out with the cookbook, please contact me at (347) 563-5281. Thank You!

Hello, and please forgive me for taking so long to post any thoughts on the website. I’m a dinosaur & so I’ve been focusing on paper & ink communications like newsletters & flyers.
I wanted to let people know about a DOE website that is very helpful to all parents of special needs kids, http://www.vesid.nysed.gov. It’s got tons of information for every stage of our kids’ lives, including several free publications and links to dozens of other helpful websites.

Hi,
I am just wondering what happened to the cookbooks. I never recieved my copy. My daughter is Rachel DePinto and she was at Henderson Avenue. She is going to PS58 site starting in July. Did I not receive my copy or did the cookbooks not come yet? Let me know. Thanks

Hi Pamela,
As I write this, Siri Kagan, the President of the PTA, is finishing the compilation process of the cookbook. She is trying to get any last minute recipes to include. We will probably be printing this year’s edition next week. We will send notice of this out ASAP. Thank you!

Hi Pamela,
I’m sorry it’s taken so long, we had some last minute requests for more time to submit recipes, then with the crush of activity at the end of the year, the project had to be pushed back to the summer session. But we are going to press next week & everybody should have their books very soon. Thanks for the recipes you submitted, and thank you very much for your patience.
This was a great fund raiser for our school, and a lot of fun to put together (even if it did make me hungry to enter all those delicious recipes!)
Take care,
Siri

No problem. I just wanted to make sure I recieve my copy. I look forward to it.
Thanks for putting a nice project like that together.

The cookbook is finally coming! After deadline extensions and some unforseen delays, families should have their personalized books in hand on Monday. Thanks for your patience.
And a GIANT THANK YOU to Joseph Cruz’ mom, Julee, for negotiating a steep PTA discount with her employer, FedEx/Kinkos. Without her help, we wouldn’t have been able to put this project togeher, and we’re truly very, very grateful.

First i would like to know what is a adult esl class? . How are both working parents able to attend wen the time is very incovenient for them ? If it was being offered in the evening that would be for parents that work outside the home or at least offer the same online.

Dear Anonymous,
ESL stands for English as a Second Language. The program is designed to help immigrants in the community learn and improve their English language skills. Regardless of the language you speak, they teach you English. The Jewish Community Center offers an Adult ESL class, but PS 373R does not offer one. The person at the JCC to contact is Maria Anselmo (718-981-1500 ext. 233) This is a ten week course. I do not know if they only offer the program during the day. Please contact Maria.
There is a one day Back to School Event for ESL Parents in Manhattan that the NY Department of Education is hosting. This conference is called “Aim High: Setting High Expectations for Your Child”. If you want more information on this one day event you may call Kirsten Rorke (718) 816-8897 ext. 210.

I’d like to thank everyone who started cutting out those box tops. In two weeks alone, between the sites, we collected over $30.00 worth of box tops!! I’m looking forward to meeting our school’s goal of $750.00 by April of 2008. If we all work together collectively, imagine all we can do for our kids with those boxtops pouring in! For those of you who couldn’t make our last PTA meeting, the box tops are on more than just cereal boxes. Just go to the http://www.Boxtops4education.com website for more information. Thanks again everyone!!

I’d like to thank all of those parents and staff who have been working hard cutting out all of those box tops. This is an ongoing effort and so far we have about $40 in box tops just from about 2 months alone! Please keep cutting them out and sending them in with your child. The next deadline is in the middle of March 2008 for the school to get a check in April. I would really like the school to earn a lot through these so the PTA can get some nice stuff for our children to use in school. Please make sure the box tops are not expired before sending them as the Box Top place will not accept them if they are out of date. I appreciate all that you can send in to help our kids. Also, check out the Box Tops website as they have contests weekly and monthly where each person can enter and try to win from 10,000-25,000 box tops for our school. There’s no purchase necessary and you can get coupons, recipes, and activities from there also. Also, if you check out the Market Place tab on the Homepage of the box tops website, there are stores that you may be shopping from online that donate a percentage of your purchase to our school. Just log onto http://www.BoxTops4education.com and enroll to support our schools because our kids are important too!! Thank you all and enjoy the holidays. There will be another boxtop flyer sent home shortly for December. Keep snipping and sending!! Thanks!!!-Sonja Bushey

Hope everyone had a great holiday break! Thanks to all who have been continuously sending in those boxtops! So far we have about $70 in boxtops. My deadline is in mid March to submit so school can get a check in April. Please keep clipping and sending. Our goal is for $750 by October of 2008.
I wanted to let everyone know that if you register with the boxtop website for PS373, there are on-going contests. Currently there are three. We could win $1,000 to $2,500 for our school if we enter daily. You don’t have to buy anything. Just go to http://www.boxtops4education.com and after you sign in, go to the “promotions” tab. Click on that and a chart of different contests and other ideas comes up. Click on the Chicken Helper contest and after you fill in the fields enter UPC code 16000-17471. This one is a daily contest. Another daily contest is called “Game time” and is underneath the chicken helper contest posted on the promotions chart. Go back to promotions and click on that one and enter UPC code 42800-71827. This is ongoing until the end of March. The third one is a monthly contest, also located on the promotions chart. The more each of us enters these contests, perhaps the better the chance we have winning for our school and our kids! Have a happy and healthy New Year! Thanks again, Sonja Bushey (Box Top Coordinator)

Thanks to all the parents who continue sending in those boxtops. So far we have $85.00 worth of boxtops. The deadline for these is March 17, 2008. I need to send them in March for the school to get a check. Please keep sending them in. If you attend PTA meetings, please bring whatever boxtops you have, even if it’s only 1. I’m usually at most of the meetings. If I’m not present, then you can give them to Kirsten Roarke, the parent Coordinator. Please keep cutting and sending. Our school is very important. I also want to mention the I LOVE MY SCHOOL CONTEST on the http://www.boxtops4education website. Just sign in and go to the “Promotions” tab. It’s at the very top with a red background. There’s no purchase necessary. Just fill in the fields and click on “enter or submit”. This contest is for every day in February up to the 29th. If your name is chosen , our school wins a lot of cash for our children to get some nice things in the school or even towards the school carnival. If everyone tries it just once a day up to Feb. 29th, we could have a good chance of winning. Thanks for all you do. Sincerely, Sonja Bushey

Just a quick update and important information for everyone. THE DEADLINE FOR THE BOX TOPS IS BY FEBRUARY 14, NOT MARCH. I was just informed by the boxtop website that I have to have all the boxtops reach them by no later than February 28. Please send in whatever you have, even if it’s only one, a few, or a bag full! The school will get a check in mid April. Even after the deadline, keep sending in the boxtops all year round. I never stop collecting them. Please mark you calendars to send in your box tops by Feb. 14. Thank you for all of your help!!!!!! Sincerely, Sonja Bushey,

Dear Pamela,

There is a Best Practices Fair in Queens for all District 75 schools on Saturday, May 10th. Our school is sending a few exhibits for display. A bus is leaving from Hungerford School (155 Tompkins) at 9 a.m. if you would like to go. The fair is from 10- 3p.m. There are many books, raffles and door prizes to be given away!

I know only 10 parent volunteers are allowed at the carnival, but I did volunteer, were the selected volunteers notified yet? I would like to know if I will be volunteering that day. Thank you.
pta373 said
Dear Pamela DePinto,
The PTA is in charge of getting back to all the people who volunteered to help with the Carnival. I will notify the PTA president that people have not all heard back about that day. You should expect a call shortly.
Thank you,
Kirsten Rorke

I think it was terrible of the PTA to ask for volunteers for the Carnival and then print in the PTA newsletter that only 10 volunteers were needed. Then only the parents who consistently volunteer were picked to be at the carnival. I know I don’t volunteer for much, but they should of not asked for the volunteers. I was also never called to be informed that I was not picked. I am not asking for a call now, so please do not call. I am just letting you know how I feel. I do not come to the PTA meetings for the little I go to I don’t find them informative. My daughter goes to the P.S. 58 site and most times alot that is talked about does not concern her site. I am sorry to be so negative, but this is how I feel.
pta373 said
Dear Ms. DePinto,
I am forwarding your comment to the PTA. I am sorry you had such a negative experience with the Carnival call for volunteers. We will change how things are done next year, maybe a lottery system. Unfortunately, this is the only event the school has that people come out in droves for. In reality, it is a very hard event to volunteer for. You are asked to man a carnival station for the entire event, and it isn’t possible to accompany your child around and experience the carnival with them.
Kirsten Rorke, Parent Coordinator
Siri Kagan said
Dear Pamela,
Please know how sorry I am that you had a bad experience — it was terrible telling parents that we had to limit the number that could be included, when we spend so much of our time trying to find ways to boost involvement and make the group more relevant to all of our parents. I’m very, very sorry too, that you never got a call. It is so hard for parents to find time to be involved, and usually when we ask for volunteers the response is slim, we had no idea so many people would want to volunteer at the carnival.
We are planning a school-wide pot luck dinner and awards ceremony on Thursday, June 19th from 6-7.30 at the main site. We’ll be sending home notices soon, but I very much hope you and your family can make it to that.
Thank you for all you do,
Siri Kaagan

I’d like to thank all of you who have whole-heartedly snipped and sent in boxtops this year. We really appreciate all you do to help our children. So far the school has earned $102 in boxtops. This was in four months alone! The school received the check for $102 in April. My goal is for $750 for the year. We have a long way to go, but have come a long way in the process. So far I have about $40 for our next installment in early October. Please keep snipping and sending. If you attend PTA meetings, you can bring them in and give them to myself or Kirsten Rorke. If you purchase anything online, there’s the “Marketplace” on the boxtops website. A select amount of stores, such as Target, Oriental Trading, Home Depot, just to name a few, will give a percentage of your purchase to the school. If you plan to shop online, please log in or register with PS373 Robert Randall School on boxtops4education.com and click on “Marketplace” and see if your online store is a donor (you can get a list from the website.)For example, if you shop at Target, then click on the marketplace and find “Target.” Click on Target and make your purchase. They will donate a percentage of your total to the school. There are also cool contests to help our school win boxtops (thousands in dollars)which is all free. Pleeeeeease help our school!!! With budget cuts looming, we need to help our children our own way and what better way than to just snip, send and join the boxtops website! For those who have a child going just through the end of June, please save them up for September. The 12 month programs can keep sending them in as usual. There are also 21 new products to look for boxtops on, which is also available on the website. Thanks to everyone and have a happy and healthy summer if I don’t see you !!! -Sonja Bushey (Box Top Coordinator)

Hello everyone! I want to thank everyone;parents, teachers, staff, and anyone else who has been sending in box tops. If you have any at home, please send them in as soon as possible as my next deadline is soon approaching and I will start rounding them up next week, the week of October 6th. Parents please send your box tops in with your child by Monday, October 6th. I need to bundle them and send them out so the school can get another check by December. As always, this is ongoing. As a deadline approaches, the next one is soon behind! I collect them every month and continuously throughout the summer. To date, I have approximately $121 in box tops. If you wish to join box tops, the website is http://www.boxtops4education.com. It is totally free and there are many contests ongoing all year long. Some contests are daily and some are monthly.Just log on and support PS373 Robert Randall School(whichever site your child attends, this is the school to support.) It only takes a few minutes and you’ll be able to get recipes, enter the contests to win many boxtops for our school, purchase items from websites that you frequent that may be in the boxtops list that gives a percentage back to PS373. If you stop by the main building often, there’s a boxtop box besides the doorway in the lobby and if you see Kirsten Rorke, our Parent Coordinator, she takes them for me as well. I just want to fill everyone in and let them know. I would really like to get the school going on this and earn the goal of $750 for the school. This goes to the PTA and the PTA uses the monies for all of our children, no matter which site, so we all benefit. Please help and thanks to everyone who supporths this ongoing fundraiser.
Sincerely,

Hi Everyone- It’s been a while- I’d like to thank all who have participated in the Box Tops for Education program. We are always collecting, it never ends! Keep sending. The school really appreciates all that you do. With these budget cuts, we as a team (I am a parent of a child at this school)of parents and teachers together can really help our school with this program. If you haven’t done so already, please join the boxtops4education website. It is free. You just need to pick PS373 Robert Randall School as your school of choice and from there you can enter daily and/or monthly contests to try to win box tops- which value as 10cents each-for our school. We could win $1,000, or even $10,000 in boxtop money for our school just by entering and no purchases are needed. There’s also a boxtop marketplace where you can purchase items from stores that you may already order from on the internet such as Oriental Trading,Target,JC Penney’s, just to name a few! If you go through the boxtop website first and then go to the shopping section, just pick out the store you want to shop from. That company gives a percentage of your purchase back to PS373 when the boxtop check is mailed to the school. There are already 20 people who have signed up and that is terrific!!! The last check earned us around $166 and the next one around $76. My goal is for $500 for the year. Don’t know if we’ll reach that, but you never know! So far I have about $70 going towards the December school check from boxtops, and I’m still collecting for that one. I wish everyone a restful and fun spring break! Thank you so much!!!!!
